Ice fishing can reward the ones who brave the cold temperatures and chilly water but it definitely makes up for that in the fun it provides. Ice fishing in Colorado is very popular but some lakes are better than others to travel to. Being that Georgetown is in the middle of the I-70 corridor it offers plenty of access for people all over. The ice is around 12” thick all winter long making it a very safe lake to fish on and is regularly stocked with thousands of trout each year.

Being that it is a very family-friendly lake it is not uncommon to see a lot of people gathering out on the ice to relax and catch trout all day. Populated with mainly rainbow and brown trout anyone who can get down through the ice is sure to enjoy at least a twenty fish day. Most people pull up fish that are around 14” with the exception of a few very large wild brown trout that have escaped other fishermen over the years.

Georgetown Lake has incredibly easy access with parking and trails stretching all around the perimeter making it great to pick up and move spots. Most of the lake is open almost all winter and hosts many community events all throughout the year. Taking a trip out on the ice is a perfect way to spend the day in Georgetown with great scenery and even better fishing its something that no one should miss out on.
